Done in sparkly metallic black paint on Legionario (mold #68), “Merry Widower” features a spooky spider and spider web pattern, perfect for Halloween! Entering is fun and easy! Just purchase the Halloween Pony Gift Set (#1427), create a spooky Halloween scene and send us a picture of your creation. The little guy has been a side project for while now. Barry made a plaster mold of him early this year and I’ve been casting and cleaning a few at a time since March.
We tried a slightly unconventional approach with this mold, using his tail as a “natural” pour hole rather than putting a new hole in his belly and then having to patch that every time. Fraley, on August 23rd, 2010 in FL Network | In our first Behold the Mold segment Barry worked on the all-important first section of the production mold for Iko. Legos are used to form the container walls of the mold. Additional non-hardening clay fills the corners to form a contoured wall, this saves on the amount of silicone that will be needed for this pour. The silicone mold material is mixed then degassed in a vacuum chamber. Pouring it in a thin stream also helps to break any remaining bubbles. That’s because ears create an undercut; the area between them is hidden. So unless the mane is thick enough to cover the space between, there is a mold piece that goes there.
When horses have turned heads, there is sometimes a second piece that fits over the head or the head and neck. Both Finn and Vixen have these. I had assumed that Elsie would need a hat and most likely a second piece since her head and neck turn quite a bit. But after looking at her a bit, I’m rethinking that part. See it this Monday on a special Elvis Presley Tribute show on QVC. Tune in on Monday, August 16th from 10:00 – 11:00 AM(ET). Not everyone knew that Elvis loved horses but now the story is out. What a marvelous way to honor and remember this amazing rock & roll legend who enjoyed horses and liked having them grazing in the fields at Graceland. Breyer’s Harmony on Horseback resin figurine has been beautifully sculpted by Kristina Lucas Francis, hand painted and unique. This set features Elvis on his favorite horse, the palomino Rising Sun, cantering on a treble clef musical note on a slender wood base with nameplate. Certificate of authenticity included! By Lesli Kathman, on August 10th, 2010 in FL Network | The master mold for Oliver is done. The rubber original had not yet been poured when this picture was taken, but it is now curing in the mold. It will take a day before I know if the casting is good, but since he is at a stopping point I decided it was time to tackle his mother.
The first step for Elsie was going to be removing her tail. Continue reading Moving on to Elsie | |
